Lake Monroe is a 10,750 acre reservoir located about 10 miles southeast of Bloomington, Indiana. Construction of the lake began in 1960 and was finished in 1965 at a cost of $16.5 million. The project began with Salt Creek being dammed south of Bloomington to allow the reservoir to fill the valley northeast of the dam extending into Brown County, Indiana.
